Thoughts in my head
Facebook is a world of arguments and I need somewhere to write and maybe someone will pay to know what I'm thinking one day 🤷

There is a lot of interesting stuff going on right now.
Earlier this week I went cold turkey on Facebook. Everything was either an ad or an argument. I check in once a day or so to grab birthdays and look at my memories. I’m sure I’ll go back at some point (obviously I’ll need to share my substack there) but right now it just doesn’t do me any good. But I like writing and I often used Facebook as an outlet for my thoughts. So I’ll try writing here instead.
AI
So what got me inspired to start writing here? It was this article I saw on Engadget saying that Gemini is putting diverse characters into its outputs when requesting generated images of historical events.
Now this is funny on its own, because:
Who cares?
Wokeness has a line it won’t cross?
But what interests me the most is how exactly does this get fixed? I’ve watched several videos on how AI models are made, and it always seems to me that the ability to fine-tune such a specific area of a model would be difficult. Maybe they go about and oversample these types of historical images. But would that prevent it altogether? Can I still have it generate a Chinese George Washington even once it is fixed? Is AI a one—step—forward, two-steps-backward kind of thing?
Sports
So now that I am using Facebook less, I’ve been looking for things I can do that will occupy those “fiddly-minutes” that were taken up by Facebook. You know, like you’re thinking about something and just need to tune out for a few minutes. Or you’re doing a monotonous task and just want to be distracted by another 30-second clip of Dave Ramsey doling out sage financial advice. So I’ve tried turning to sports. But here is the problem: I haven’t really followed any of the American professional sports for several years. It is much harder to do it from outside of the USA. So I really don’t know how to get back into it. I wish there was some sort of monthly update that says: these are the big stories right now in League X.
I think with spring training ramping up it is a good time to hop back on the baseball wagon. I still really don’t care, but if we’re going to argue about something, it might as well be silly too. One YouTube channel I do like that sort of does do the whole “storyline” thing is Baseball Doesn’t Exist.
I think that’s all for now. I wrote down a bunch of other ideas for a future post. Shabbat Shalom!
